James Guzek, MD
Cataract Surgeon, Corneal Specialist
Thoughtful, kind and pleasant, Dr. Guzek has a good natured demeanor that is valued by colleagues and patients alike. His soft-spoken, easy-going temperament and careful attention to detail puts people at ease. A native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, where his father practiced as an ophthalmologist, Jim grew up in this old coal mining town playing basketball every moment he could squeeze into the day. Jim graduated from college with a degree in biology and then pursued medicine. After earning his medical degree, he completed a residency in ophthalmology and went on to specialize in cornea and external disease. For 7 years, Dr. Guzek was chief of ophthalmology at the VA Hospital in Loma Linda, California. He also practiced 3 years in Saudi Arabia and 6 years as a medical missionary in Sri Lanka and West Africa. Dr. Guzek enjoys relaxing with a good book, bicycling, hiking and listening to classical music. He and his wife Roberta, a nurse, have 2 sons and twin daughters—James, Joseph, Leah and Rachel. There is little Dr. Guzek has not encountered in his broad scope of experience. His concern is for the greater welfare of people. “Everyone has needs and I consider it a privilege to be able to help as many people as I possibly can.”
